Alternative Charter High School for Students Who Can’t or Won’t Attend Traditional School

Achieve Detroit Academy is a flexible, highly supportive alternative school for Michigan high school students ages 15–22. This unique option provides students with an individualized solution to staying in school.

Achieve Detroit is a Cognia-accredited charter high school authorized by Detroit Public Schools Community District and managed by Graduation Alliance. Students earn an accredited high school diploma using the Michigan Merit graduation requirements, and it is recognized by employers, colleges, and the U.S. military.

Program Details

Achieve Detroit Academy pairs time and place flexibility with a multi-tiered system of supports that includes:

Once enrolled, students receive the tools and support needed for success:

  • Technology Access: Each student is issued a Chromebook and a Wi-Fi hotspot to ensure they can access coursework anytime, anywhere.

  • Streamlined Course Load: Students take two classes at a time, with each self-paced course designed to be completed in just three weeks, allowing for focused learning, fast credit recovery, and steady progress toward graduation.

  • Comprehensive Support: Students are provided assistance with both academic and life challenges through their dedicated support team, enabling them to remain engaged and focused on their education.

who build personalized education plans, monitor student pace and progress, and help them navigate life challenges

located at Detroit Lions Academy where students can go for extra academic support, college and career planning, and to take required state exams 24/7 virtual tutoring services so students can get homework help any time of day or night

To qualify, students must live in Michigan, be between the ages of 15 and 22 (or 26 if the student has an IEP), and meet one of the following criteria: 

  • No longer attending school
  • At risk of dropping out (i.e., chronically absent, behind on credits, behavior challenges, life circumstances, etc.)
  • Past cohort year
  • Pregnant and/or parenting
  • Suspended or expelled
  • Referred by a court
